Welcome to the VBU website
The Tenants' Organization and Residents' Association of Uilenstede
About us
The Whole Lotta!
Do you live in Uilenstede and rent from DUWO? Then the VBU is here for you! We're your tenants' association, residents' committee, and neighborhood platform all rolled into one. We negotiate effectively with DUWO and the Municipality of Amstelveen about your living comfort, resolve problems, and provide funding to improve the neighborhood. And don't forget: our committees organize fun activities for relaxation. Read below to learn how we represent your interests.

What does an official tenants' organization do?
As a tenants' organization, we're more than just a listening ear; we're DUWO's official contact person. This status is enshrined in the Tenants-Landlords Consultation Act (the Consultation Act). The goal of this law is to ensure that tenants and landlords communicate with each other on an equal footing.
The law gives the tenants' organization three specific rights (powers):
Right to information: The landlord (e.g., DUWO) must proactively inform the organization about plans and policy changes. They may not withhold anything important to the tenants.
Right to advise: The organization may provide solicited and unsolicited advice on important matters, such as maintenance policies, renovations, annual rent increases, and the allocation of living spaces. The landlord may not simply ignore this advice.
Right of approval: On specific points, such as how service charges are calculated and distributed, the landlord even needs to agree. Without the tenants' organization's approval, the plan cannot proceed.
In short: The VBU monitors DUWO, guards the tenant's wallet and ensures fair play.
Events
At VBU, it's not just about meetings and policy; we also keep things lively! Our activities committee organizes events year-round to keep the campus lively and connect residents.
